Cayden was discharged on Sunday after showing no signs of vomitting and diarrhea and was eating very well. The hospital food seemed to suit his taste well. We always thought he had a small appetite but this hospital stay made us realise, mummy’s cooking is worse than hospital food.

Today is Day 9 since the fever first started, Day 6 of the cough, Day 4 of vomitting and diarrhea. After two prior visits to KKH A&E, the prescribed antibiotics didnt seem to work as his condition continue to worsen, although the coughing is reduced. However, he had to be admitted due to dehydration and is now on drip.

The doctor said it could most likely be stomach flu and they need to do testing on his poo samples to be sure and to estimate the date of discharge. To read more on stomach flu, click here.

After getting the booster jab from the polyclinic yesterday morning, Cayden started to have fever in the evening. At 38.57°C, after taking panadol,  he pulled me to the corner of the room to play football.

After sponging and milk, he was lying on the bed with his eyes closed, as though asleep, but his body started jerking for a while every few minutes. The fever was 39.63°C. I called the nurse hotline and was adviced to go to the A&E as a precaution.

At the hospital, he cried non-stop and he highest it went was 39.8°C, after taking bruprofen and sponging, his fever went down to 38°C after 3 hours of observation.

The next morning, the first thing he did when he woke up, was to pick up his football and play.

We brought Cayden to the KKH A&E again as this is the third day of coughing and it doesn’t seem to get better. After consultation and X-ray, he was diagnosed with bronchiolitis, though not as serious as the first time. The virus also made his left eye red and slightly swollen.

This time, we were given antibiotics, medication to clear the airways, eye drop antibiotics and paracetamol. For the First Episode of Bronchiolitis at around 4 months old in December, the attending doctor said it was against the practice of KKH to prescribe antibiotics to infants. This time, antibiotics was prescribed and when questioned, the attending doctor explained it is prescribed to safeguard against further development into pneumonia because there is still an adult in the house with the virus.

To prevent virus transmission among family members, the doctor adviced that it is better to cough into a hankerchief or wear a mask. Coughing into hands or anywhere else keeps the viruses in the air and puts the baby at risk as these viruses are transmitted airborne.

It is difficult to bring the message across without offending.

It has been about a week since we discovered his two lower teeth and Cayden started to have a slight fever since yesterday. He is less active today and worse still, he is having a cough. Here’s a photo of Cayden sleepcrawling.
